X-Press 2 - Reign Of Drums / Gave Up The Dance

X-Press 2 return to their run of releases heavily influenced by the early days of Deep House. Essences of early Joe Louis and deep Chicago movements rattle throughout the drum patterns in both tracks, with Rocky & Diesel’s eclectic nature and darker tones shining through.

Reign Of Drums introduces us to the release with submersed beats, layered with hi hats and a growling undercurrent that lead to infectious, scattered drums. Themes from Jazz influenced percussion are given the X-Press 2 twist, directing it to a dance floor groove. Anyone who’s seen the boys in action will know the incredible presence X-Press 2 couple with tracks like this.

Gave Up The Dance continues a somewhat nautical theme with a wave of tom rolls, accompanied with vocal cuts before the keys slice this into a late night mover. The thudding kick drum and chord pattern is disrupted by distorted, haunting noises further pitching up the track to hook you in.
